all day to explore the city that will host the world during the Winter
2010 games. Departure time for the train is scheduled for

VIA Rail’s “top of the line” accommodation. Your sitting room
by day converts to upper and lower berths at night. Once aboard the train,
the staff will see that you are settled into your room. As Silver and Blue

4 - Jasper at Leisure
You are at
leisure to enjoy the Jasper. Dog sledding, guided tours of the area to see
rivers frozen in time at Maligne Canyon, or snowshoeing are just some of the
possibilities. One of the most awe-inspiring sights of winter is the frozen
beauty of waterfalls such as Angel Falls and Queen of Maligne Canyon; winter
turns their cascades into delicate sculptures beyond any human artisan’s
skill.
Overnight –
Sawridge Inn
Day
5 – Jasper to Prince George
Your
morning is at leisure. Your train departs at 12:45 PM and we have made
arrangements for your transfer from the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge to the
rail station in Jasper. The wilderness beauty of Jasper is a picture of
what is in store as you travel from Jasper to Prince George. The
“Skeena”, named for the Skeena River valley travels through
country little changed by man. Your route takes you past Mount Robson, the
highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, down the western slope of the range
with its giant cedars and hemlocks, and across British Columbia’s interior
plateau en route to the Skeena river valley. The Skeena arrives into
Prince George at 7:08PM. When you arrive in Prince George take a taxi to the
hotel. We recommend that you let the hotel know when you check in that you
will need an early taxi to the station. They will pre book a taxi to the
station. If you have checked your bags you can leave them on the train. We
recommend that you travel with an overnight bag for your stay in Prince
George
Overnight –
Coast Inn of the North
Day
6 – Prince George to Prince Rupert
An early
morning is in order; the Skeena departs at 8:00AM. Settle back and enjoy
another day of dramatically beautiful scenery. Highlights of your routing
include Fraser Lake, the meeting of the Telkwa and Bulkley rivers, Kathlyn
Glacier and Twin Falls, one of the best views of a glacier from a passenger
train in Canada. And, to the river for which the train was named, the
mighty Skeena River, taking you past snow covered mountain peaks, graveled
flood plains, and lush river beds to the Pacific Ocean Tidal zone, where the
river widens on its way to the ocean. When you arrive take a taxi to your
hotel. After two days on the train, you will be ready to be out and about
in Prince Rupert. The city is small, so getting around is easy. The Crest
Hotel is just delightful, built right at the water’s edge; it offers an
array of ocean views. Cow Bay is a must see with great bovine decorating
ideas at every turn. Fish lovers will find that the Halibut is so fresh and
delicious you will want it for every meal. Try the fish and chips at the
Peg Leg Café for lunch.
