Scenic Splendors of Fall

Tour Itinerary - 12 days & 11 nights

October 1 – Arrival in New York City

Transportation will be provided by Super Shuttle from either LGA or JFK airports to the hotel of your choice. Whichever hotel you choose, it puts you in the heart of Manhattan. Just blocks from the Broadway district, Rockefeller Center and Park Avenue.
Overnight – New York City

October 2– New York City Sightseeing / MSC Cruise

Your hop on/off city sightseeing ticket is good for 2 consecutive days, giving you most of the day to explore New York. Some of the sights on the tour include New York’s most popular attractions: Times Square, Empire State Building, Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy, Union Square, Lower East Side, Greenwich Village and more….

Your cruise departs at 8:00pm this evening. The Manhattan Pier is just a short taxi ride from your hotel. As you depart from the N.Y. Cruise Terminal, don’t forget to catch a parting glance of the Manhattan skyline before passing historic Ellis Island and the regal Statue of Liberty as you head to the open waters.

October 3- At Sea

Onboard this elegant cruise ship you will discover luxury cruising at its best – a spectacular waterfall with bridges in the foyer, a zen garden in the sushi bar and an open air cinema are just a few of the offerings on this beautiful modern liner.

October 4 – Halifax, Nova Scotia

Halifax is situated on the peninsula of Nova Scotia, a province of Canada. A large and animated port city, Halifax was founded in 1749 by the British government before becoming the City of Halifax in 1841. Vibrant and cosmopolitan, Halifax marries history and arts with majestic nature, so each cruise passenger can create their ideal outing when leaving the ship coming ashore for the day. Those with an interest in naval history won’t want to miss the Halifax Citadel, a National Historic Site of Canada. A legacy of Halifax’s important role during the British Empire, the 19th century citadel has a defensive ditch, ramparts, musketry gallery and a ‘living history’ programme; the whole site makes a great day out for adults and children. Those in the mood for metropolitan living can shop ‘til they drop in Halifax’s numerous shopping districts; the Spring Gardens Place, in particular, is popular for its coffee shops and stylish boutiques.

Many cruise passengers will want to ensure that a visit to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is part of their cruise vacation; this popular attraction is home to a very comprehensive and permanent exhibition on the Titanic (The sad tale of this infamous liner ended in Halifax, as local ships were crucial in the Titanic’s rescue operation). Many of the Titanic’s victims are buried in Halifax.

October 5 – Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Victorian-era houses, colourful painted buildings, and an attractive waterfront; Charlottetown is the capital of Prince Edward Island, located in eastern Canada, lying west of Cape Breton Island and north of the Nova Scotia peninsula, in the Gulf of St Lawrence. The island’s pastoral landscapes of rolling hills, woodlands, ocean coves and unique red soil have earned PEI the name ‘Garden of the Gulf’ and it is a very popular holiday spot with tourists from local maritime areas and from North America.

October 6 – Corner Brook, Newfoundland

Corner Brook is situated in the province of Newfoundland, located on the west coast of the Newfoundland islands. Corner Brook is a charming city and a recommended holiday spot. The best way to approach Corner Brook is by cruise ship, as from the vantage point of your luxury liner you can take in the dramatic cliffs and jagged headlands that rise above the fjord-like waters.

Located inland, Corner Brook nestles among the Long Range Mountains, which are a continuation of the Appalachian Mountain belt. The surrounding landscape is rugged and the scenery is spectacular with magnificent fjords, thick forests and many picturesque offshore islands.

Unsurprisingly, painters, photographers and sculptors have all found inspiration here; Corner Brook has a strong arts culture and many art galleries display and sell the work of local artists.

October 7 – Cruise the Gulf of St. Lawrence River

Follow the St. Lawrence River to experience the French charm and seafaring heritage of Quebec…what a lovely sight as you sail into a landscape of dazzling crimson and gold.

October 8 – Quebec City

As you approach the city from the vantage point of your luxury liner will see the massive Fairmont Château Frontenac Hotel which dominates the city’s skyline; this impressive edifice holds some promise of what lies in store. Packed with history and culture, Quebec is a heady, beautiful city where Old World Europe meets North America. One of the oldest cities in North America, the ramparts surrounding Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) are the only remaining fortified city walls north of Mexico and were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. A wonderful place to visit at any time of year, summer draws bustling crowds, creating a buzz wherever you go, whereas autumn and spring are equally beautiful, as the city is dressed in nature’s own vibrant colours. Holiday-makers are treated to fantastic music and arts festivals all year round, and the city’s museums and tourist attractions are plentiful. Be sure to go east of the fortification walls in Vieux-Québec and visit Place Royal, an area with a distinct European feel with stone buildings and winding streets lined with shops and restaurants.

Tonight you overnight on the ship while docked in Quebec City, giving you all night to enjoy this wonderful city!

October 9 – Quebec City

This morning you will be met at the pier and transferred to the Manoir Victoria Hotel. Please present your voucher to the driver. Upon arrival, the staff of the Manoir Victoria will assist you with your check-in. Quebec City is a great walking city, and your hotel is conveniently located within the heart of Old Quebec, surrounded by interesting architecture and popular highlights.
Overnight – Manoir Victoria

October 10 – Quebec City to Montreal

Today you board VIA Rail for your three hour train-ride to Montreal. Please refer to your train ticket for your travel times and plan to be at the station at least 30 minutes prior to departure. When you arrive in Montreal, the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is located directly over the rail station and right in the heart of the city. A city of sophistication and style, where the restaurant guide is required reading. Where fashion calls home and the shopping is hard to beat. There is so much to see in this radiant city, beautiful churches, historic buildings, museums and an underground city. The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is one of Montreal’s premier hotels. Known for their excellent service, their staff is waiting to welcome you and assist with your check in arrangements.
Overnight – Fairmont Queen Elizabeth

October 11 – Montreal

There is plenty to see and do in Montreal. Be sure to visit Notre-Dame Basilica; this church is beautiful and an exceptional example of Gothic Revival architecture. Old Montreal, located along the shores of the St. Lawrence River leads into the Old Port, one of the largest redeveloped old ports in the world. Visit Bonsecours Market and City Hall in this area. If you want to explore on your own, you will find that it is easy to use the underground system or stroll streets full of energy and atmosphere. Overnight – Fairmont Queen Elizabeth

October 12 – Montreal / Home

Enclosed in your travel documents is a transfer voucher from the hotel to the airport. We hope you have enjoyed your trip out East and will be one of many with Cartan Tours.
